The Solar House - An experiment in One-Planet Living

with Elaine Brook

A short 5 minute film made with support funding from UnLtd

Writer, Photographer and Ecologist, Elaine Brook, has spent the last several years having fun experimenting with new ways to adapt her lifestyle and home on the welsh borders, to reduce her carbon footprint.

This short film explores the different ways and methods that Elaine has discovered and explored in her journey to achieve her goal, including: Running her car on recycled chip-fat; using rainwater and reducing her mains water consumption; composting and reducing her waste; growing her own fruit and veg; preserving and storing food; insulating an old cottage; active and passive solar heating.

Far from finding this experiment arduous or a lesson in deprivation and hardship, Elaine has found this journey to be fun and fascinating and invites all of us to start our own journeys to reduce our carbon footprints.

The Gaia Partnership inspires individuals and business to adapt to climate change in a positive and enjoyable way, using insights from the new sciences and the creativity of the arts.

Elaine Brook designs GP’s education programme, as well as teaching Gaia Theory and Deep Ecology.
