ANIMATE EARTH: Connection, perception, reverence
A documentary film by Clive Ardagh and Barbara Tam in production
How might a more holistic scientific process broaden our perception of the natural world and inform subsequent understanding, resulting in a deeper reconnection with the Earth? We live in a new age of ecological awareness that questions previous assumptions and provides the opportunity to seek answers anew. In recent times, a new language has emerged for understanding the integrative actions of living organisms as scientists have begun to challenge conventional theories of evolution and the organising principles of living systems.
This promising and informative film will be based on the book Animate Earth by ecologist Stephan Harding and is intended to complement it. It is the story of Earth's functioning as a self-regulating, living being and of our inherent human spiritual, moral and physical connection to that story. Filmed by seasoned environmental cinematographers, the documentary will sensitively use the power and universal language of nature to explore and convey this new scientific language on both an intellectual and emotional level. Holistic science focuses on the qualities of organisms; process and form, which constitutes visual subject matter and often in movement. The labarynthical, interwoven impression that a film invokes, combining images, scenes and sound, is a perfect medium for communicating this subject matter.
